Feb 21: In which we celebrate Mardi Gras by hogging all the joke-butts

Seriously: Mormons, Canadians, AND a question about Uranus? The jokes wrote themselves tonight. And through it all, Huge Midget proved they were more than a perennial second-place team, the proverbial maid who saw the owl on Valentine's Day. They can also tie for first place--and win a tiebreaker to boot!

      First place: Huge Midget!

      Second; Homeless Abe

and third: Buffalo CHiPs, starring Kevin Costner and Eric Estrada

Feb 14: a pub quiz de amor

That means 'love' in some other language, dudes, and it's how I feel for the winning teams tonight, who honored this day of romance by playing with all their hearts, and coming out with some absurdly good scores. Nice work everyone!

      Champs: Homeless Abe Lincoln (49/50!)

Second, possibly arriving at the elusive "lucky team name" they've sought for so long: GV Blackout (44/50, plus a tiebreaker)

And third place, choosing the coveted Half Price Books gift card despite one ragamuffin practically begging for the Ragstock prize: Noxious Foxes! (44/50)

Feb. 7: Caucus Night Trivia Action Kapow!

The most impressive thing about tonight was the restraint you guys showed in your team naming. Republic teams have never been shy about naming themselves after the male anatomy, so I assumed caucus night would prove too ripe a fruit not to pluck, so to speak. But the closest thing we got to an NC-17 was Tanaka-Donk Butt, tonight's third place team. Granted, Huge Midget (2nd) conjures some undeniably sexy mental images, while Noxious Foxes tends toward the sultry side of the animal kingdom. But no cock jokes? Nice work everyone.

Jan 31: Cowboys and romance. Not necessarily at the same time

Cowboys kept popping up everywhere tonight in trivia--whether it was the Clanton brothers wrangling horses, the Indian Cief Village Person proving one does not need a mustache to be a macho man, or Heath Ledger longingly mumbling All 4 One lyrics, cowboys were the theme of the night. Even Betty White made an appearance. And everyone knows she's saved a horse or three in her day, if you know what I mean.

      Let's see those winners:

      Champs: Homeless Abe Lincoln
      Second: Huge Midget
Third: Buffalo Bill Codeine (look at that! Another cowboy reference! There must be something on the stinky snowmelt February air.)

Jan 24: Wilsons, Oscars, and other nucular trivia happenings

Swell night tonight: a team came in off the streets and happened their way into a tight second-place finish (and a first half win); the eventual victors squeaked by with an error-free second half, demonstrating an uncanny affinity for the Wilson brothers, and we got to hear a song from the "Smokey and the Bandit" soundtrack. All in a night's work.

      Winners:

      Champs: Homeless Abe Lincoln
      Second place: Dirty 30
      Third: Pretentious Hippopotomi

      See you next week!
