Recap for February 6: The Week Everyone Was Evidently Still Hungover

So, it was a pretty quiet week* this week, but every team that finished got a prize! YAY! We were football adjacent with our Giants and Patriots questions (although they were about things like the BFG and Samuel Adams), plus Kris' favorite image round (to date)!

      *In Lake Wobegon, my hometown

This week's winners of the advanced books I got from work were TeamNameDotCom! You were four points off the winners, don't feel badly.  Plus, now you get to read about Kalid Sheik Mohamed and frosted nut sacks!

Third place this week went to Cobra Winfrey. They seem unamused.

Second place, after a tie breaker, was the incredibly oversized Megavaginasaurus Rex! If you all come back, we're turning you into seventeen tiny teams. Deal with it. Enjoy your Red Headed Sluts!

And first place, proving once again that as long as you arrive before the sound round, we'll get you caught up, Tangential Connections Trifecta. Well played!

Thanks to everyone that came out this week, and hopefully everyone's schedules will work out better next week.

Don't forget: Two weeks from now, February 20, is our PRESIDENTS' DAY-PALOOZA!! It's going to be awesome!

Recap for Jan 30: Ask your congressman which way he prays

(With NO apologies to Dan, who helps us earn our "fairly rude" moniker by being full of hot air almost each and every week*)

Kris was back! It was nice out! There was a birthday party or something and we got a bunch of them to play trivia! I hope you guys had as much fun celebrating Trivia Mafia's fifth anniversary as much as we did. Also, some knowledge: "Roe" was the pseudonym for Norma McCorvey (like Jane Doe) and "Wade" was the DA, Henry Wade. Neither was named Maggie.

Third place, Karate!! (which I insist on pronouncing "kah-rah-tay"). They felt good going into the sound round, and pulled it together in the end!

Second place this week was Vibraphunk, whose team name was inspired by our vibraslap sound round! They are my new favorite team. Thanks for coming back guys! Enjoy your Slippery Nipples (thanks John!).

(Yes, it's blurry, but in the other one Kris and I are blocking you guys with our giant melon heads.)

In first place, Alcoholics Unanimous, despite fighting us on the War of the Roses AND the direction of Mecca. They nailed their mega round and knew their five-themed images. Good job guys!

Thanks also to Gale's Vagina Cupcakes (seriously, thank you for existing. And tell your boyfriend's mother that we say hi! Hi, Gale!), Madame Ovary, Team Thunderdome, Under Invested, and my incredibly subtle friends on team DTMFA. Thank you for coming out, and we hope to see you all next week!

      *Just kidding, love you Dan!

Recap for Jan 23: So much geography, but zero really long anagrams

Sorry, this would have been up earlier, but I got super wrapped up in the State of the Union address (summary: strong. The state of the union is strong. Also, jobs! troops! Bin Laden!)

Everyone knew that North Korea borders South Korea, and people who thought Eisenhower wa the last Republican to carry MN almost never knew how to spell his name. Fun fact though: his VP? Richard Mother-Fucking-Milhouse Nixon!) I also forgot my camera, so the following photos are google image results from the search terms of the teams choosing.

Third place, after a tie-breaker tie, went to Cobra Winfrey! Kris loves their name, I love that they laughed when I made a Lesotho joke. Also, they thought Ken Burns invented the "vertigo effect," which I prefer to the actual, answer, Hitchcock. Good job, boys!

(Yup, I did find a younger picture of you. Thanks, Internet! And Chuck, for fastidious record keeping!)

Second place, winners of some delicious Iron Butterfly shots, was Sour Beer. They knew most of the name of the Father Louis Hennepin Bridge over the Mississipi.

(I assume she's wearing a merkin made out of narwhals under her jumper)

First place, Robots over Humans! They love trivia, so it warms my heart when they come out to my night. Thanks guys, come back next time and also another non-Monday to use your gift certificate!

And a big thank you to our other teams, Alcoholics Unanimous, Malahal, Halimonajo, Squirrel Friends, and the team that didn't have a name but drew an aweseom picture of a CRAB! See you all next week!

Recap for Jan 16: Doctor Reverend Martin Luther King Junior Day-style.

We learned a lot this week. We learned that you guys don't like anagrams as much as we do. We learned (again) that Kris hates the Beatles (but likes George Harrison!). We learned that Marlene's pencil skirt and the spinning stool are a bad match. And although George Washington and Abe Lincoln were both presidents, it's just Washington's birthday for which we observe the Feb 20 Federal holiday. (And we learned that PBS is magic! And sooo much more about Seward than you ever wanted to know!) Oh, and although Mesa IS an anagram, the right answer was Ames.

Your third place team, after much complaining and beating out Anagram Geniuses with a tie breaker (Michael Crichton was so tall!), Fuuuuckkk! Who frankly, had too many Ks in their name for MLK day.

In second place, last week's champions, Alcoholics Unanimous, whose token Lutheran was almost no help with Martin Luther questions. Delicious Iron Butterflies for everyone!

A new team this week, who knew waaaay too much about prescription drugs, Pancakes! Evidently they had dinner at the same place I did, so knowing the best Thai place in the city makes them geniuses twice over!

Thanks to everyone else that came out, including The Pricks (who let us taste a terrible shot, but then later a good one), theh 2'zzzzzz (who had to leave early but promised to come back), Stolen Baklava, STHC, and Vin's Diesels. See you all next week!

Recap for Jan 9: Kris and Marlene Are Bad at Math

Seriously, whose score DIDN'T we mess up? Sorry. But then we remember the look you all got when we read the chicken-goose-duck question and it all evens out. It was a tight game this week, with one point separating the top seven teams. Even more reason to do your IOQ next week!

Your first place team: Alcoholics Unanimous! These guys really know their vibraslap songs.

(The two girls in the front didn't actually play, but they were talking to the guy in the middle [the one doing jazz hands] when we took the photo. The girl on the end, however, is a genius.)

Second place: Proud to be a Merkin (also, winner of my favorite team name of the evening). John the Bartender was on her team too, so she got to do shots with Robots Over Humans. Klondike bars, what wouldn't you do for one?

Third place was actually Cobra Winfrey (who also won Kris' favorite team name), but they left right away, so we gave their prize to Loving Like Lenny. Enjoy the last of my creepy flipbooks, team!

Thanks to all the teams that came out (even those that were super late and/or left early), especially Piper, Cleveland USA, Finnish Lullabies, Never Nudes, and of course You Forgot to Write Down Your Team Name so Come Up Here and Tell Us Your Team Name (which, of course, is still a team name).

      See you all next week!
