WHO WE ARE

Trivia Mafia is a thriving trivia operation based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, staffed by impassioned and creative trivia-lovers and driven by a mission to create the world’s best trivia experiences. Founded in 2007 as a single weekly trivia night, Trivia Mafia has grown into a nationwide network of bar/brewery trivia nights, themed quizzes, trivia tournaments, private trivia events, and, increasingly, online/virtual trivia experiences. We think there’s too much bad trivia in the world and we’re fixing to do something about it.

Hybrid Events

As times change and people shift between homes and workplaces (and homes as workplaces), Trivia Mafia is working hard to meet our customers’ every need. We’re happy to embrace the middle space when some participants are on-site and some are in pajama bottoms!

If you have a mix of players, some of whom are in the same space and some remote, we set up on a digital platform where a live host will guide both groups through the experience together. The group playing live will see the host and questions on one or more main screens, while the remote players stay engaged over Zoom. In-person players put their heads together at their table(s) to determine their best answers as the host plays some music to cover their discussions, as remote players are assigned to breakout rooms to discuss things digitally.

Business Groups

Looking for a way to build camaraderie for your team or company? Want to onboard new or potential hires or interns with something more lively than a welcome packet? Would you like to celebrate a holiday, anniversary, or retirement in a way thoughtfully personalized to you and your colleagues?

Our distinguishing feature is a high level of content customization. Contribute your ideas or leave it entirely to us! Our editorial team has more than a decade of experience writing varied trivia with an eye toward diversity and representation on just about every imaginable topic. They’re happy to put their brains behind writing custom rounds on topics of your choice, or even the history and culture of your company. Beyond that, you can let us know the topics of interest (or disinterest) and we can dive into our vast archive of existing material to match them.

Have lawyers define J.D.s (actors with those initials), have marketers name brands with birds, make doctors name ones played on TV, or have engineers remember famous bridges - we can run the gamut.

Once you know the purpose of your event, we’ll dig into these details on how to structure and enhance the game to maximize your time and investment!

Format options

Virtual
We’ll set up the Zoom where it happens, you invite the players! We deliver the link - and manage registrations if needed - and will utilize the Breakout Rooms to give teams time to chat privately after each round of questions. Following a quick takeoff in 2020, we’ve run hundreds of events this way!

Hybrid
We’ll beam in our host via Zoom to connect with both at-home computers and in-conference-room participants, so that you can include people in a wide variety of locations.

In-Person
Get the traditional experience of pen-and-paper playing complete with a living, breathing, physically present host. (This is most easily achieved in the Twin Cities metro area, but we can and will travel as requested!)

Content Only
We’ll provide a kit of materials, with answer sheet and questions and slideshow, and set up a quick training to help you host the show yourself, either virtually or in-person!

Length options

60 minutes or less - For a happy hour, lunch hour, or any ol’ hour you need to fill with a fun trivia game, this is an easy snack-size to add to your schedule.

90 minutes - Our most popular length for virtual games, this timing includes six rounds of trivia as well as a short intermission.

120 minutes - Following the format of our public bar games, two hours encompasses eight rounds of trivia, an intermission, and lots of fun.

Audience options

60 people or fewer - We can handily run with one host and up to fifteen teams with this group size.

61-150 people - We add a second host to keep the timing tight and facilitate questions or tech support; up to 40 teams.

151-500 people - We’ll send three staff to run a fun game within the allotted time, keep everyone engaged and on track; up to 50 teams in Zoom or 80 teams in-person/hybrid.

Enhancements

Every event comes with:

• a free demo session - can even be a test game for a small group!

• a dedicated point-of-contact person (POC) to shepherd your event from inquiry to completion

• a survey about the demographics and interests of your group to shape the overall content for the event

• helpful verbiage to provide to participants when inviting them to the event

• the addition of your logo to the welcome slide

• extra intro slide for a guest speaker or brief informational video

On top of all that, you can also choose to further enhance your event with the following options (for an additional fee)!

Themed Events - Does your group love “The Office” or find the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be uniting? Looking for all rounds to be about Halloween, the winter holidays, or babies? Let us know and we can apply your theme to the entire event!

Custom Content - Give us your company history page, some plot points from the relationship you’re celebrating, or the field of your participants and we’ll write from scratch a round of five original, tailored questions just for you!

Extra Host Time - Need some ice-breaker conversation time before or after the game, or want breakout rooms to remain open for other group activities? Stay for a costume contest as we spotlight the participants and run a poll of the top ten! We can add that on to your booking.

Other MC Duties - Our host can help talk up your silent auction, add-on your Bingo play, or assist in facilitating an awards presentation, which we’ll help coordinate and plan as well.

Fundraiser Buy-Ins -We’ll provide a full menu of the types of customization you can choose from, with fun and creative ways to engage players and encourage them to spend more during the event.

Conference Branding on Digital Presentation - Change the look of the entire slide deck and answer form to match the design or branding of your larger conference or umbrella event.

Digital Presentation for In-Person Events - Add a slideshow of the questions to increase the accessibility and polish of the overall event, which our host will present alongside the reading of the questions and printed answer sheet we provide.

Host or Editor Meetings/Site Visits - Connect with our team beyond your event’s POC to collaborate on the customize presentation, the custom content, verify how the sound system will work, or practice how a hybrid presentation will work.

Event Registration Report Management - Let us gather the registrations for a Zoom event, and we’ll provide regular reports as often as requested and help with providing the info that participants need to set up their team and otherwise know what to expect!

Those are just a few of the campus trivia scenarios we’ve delivered! Trivia Mafia games blend seamlessly into educational groups, because learning is at the core of what we do. 

For elementary environments, our editorial team is well-practiced at engaging players as young as 8, and the seamless online format helps keep things orderly and smooth for large and small groups alike. We work hard to keep our finger on the cultural pulse and meet students where they are. We’ve also hosted numerous events for Parent-Teacher organizations that let teachers, parents, and students play together (or separately, as needed). Our breakout rooms allow us to assign chaperones to each team, if preferred.

NOW Spell “FUN”

We also run virtual Spelling Bees - but with some quirky twists and turns to engage players at every level.

Spelling Bees

Looking for something different from trivia? Are your players particular about proofing? Do you have an office of outgoing personalities who are ready to shine? Our new UnScrippsted Spelling Bee format is just the thing for you. We created a team format that captures the fun and whimsy of our in-person Drinking Spelling Bee (only, now it’s for all ages, and all environments).

How it works: To avoid any latent spelling-bee-related childhood trauma, we group players onto teams, and then each team elects a champion speller for each round. They’ll get a certain number of points for flawless spelling, but can also earn points for performative flair in each round’s Twist. Spell a Culinary word as Today’s Special, or chant sports words like a Cheerleader.

At the end, the top two teams will compete not in a Spelling Bee, but a Defining Bee, where they will work to create a fun and creative definition for unusual words like susurrus or cacuminious. The definition that gets the most votes from everyone on the call will win, and that team will win the glory.

This is an ideal format for players who love games like Balderdash, Cranium, or Jackbox. It’s a great way to learn about your colleagues’ hidden talents, and a hilarious way to unwind.
