Frequently asked questions

Q: How do I cancel one of my trivia nights to avoid a charge?

A: Fill in this Schedule Change Form, or email us at info@triviamafia.com with your location name and the date that trivia will not be happening, at least two business days before trivia is being called off.

For most emergency cancellations, please email sam@triviamafia.com. If you are in New Mexico, please email danhpennington@gmail.com. There is no charge/penalty for emergency cancellations, including inclement weather.

Q: How far in advance do I have to reach out to Trivia Mafia to cancel a trivia night?

A: We ask for at least 48 hours cancellation notice for any Trivia Mafia event, to allow us time to alert our staff and players and prevent a charge to your account. You can call off a trivia night for any reason; if you want us to share additional info on our calendar or social media (i.e. you’re closed for an event, or not having trivia due to a sports game), just let us know!

Q: One of my upcoming trivia events falls on a holiday. Will Trivia Mafia still run the game?

A: Trivia Mafia does not create content or run events on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Eve. All other days, including national holidays and Election Day, we are prepared to put on the show! Please contact us via form or at info@triviamafia.com at least 48 hours ahead of your scheduled game if you will be closed or otherwise want to cancel.

Q: What is Trivia Mafia’s COVID-19 policy?

Read our complete statement below; we are committed to the health and safety of our staff and players - and your staff as well! We are asking all our employees to be vaccinated, and to wear masks as much as possible. We appreciate your support in creating a safe environment for everyone to work in.
If you have a staff member report a positive test who was working on a trivia night, we would appreciate a notification so that we can keep our host informed.

Q: What’s the best way to promote my trivia night?

A: Make sure that your staff is all aware of when trivia happens, so they can talk to your patrons throughout the week. Hang the posters from Trivia Mafia in the bathrooms, in the front windows, along hallways, and at the host stand (if applicable). Request more posters to hang around your neighborhood - coffee shops, gas stations, liquor stores, and libraries are all great places to start! If you do take-out orders, add a flyer or business card with your trivia event info stapled to the bag or receipt. Learn how to leverage social media to promote your trivia night here.

Q: How can I order more posters?

A: Send an email to info@triviamafia.com with the subject line “Additional posters for [your venue name].”

Q: I want to change the day or time of my trivia. How do I do that?

A: Reach out to Sam, our Sales & Account Associate, to request a day or time change. We request a minimum of 15 days advance notice.

Q: What night of the week is best for trivia?

A: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the most popular, but it comes down to whatever is best for your business. Trivia happens seven days a week, 359ish days a year! Consider which nights are slower than others, when you see regulars, and how late you’re open. You can piggy-back trivia with a food/drink special that runs directly before or after, to extend the crowd.

Q: Our sound system isn’t working; can we still run trivia?

A: If your sound system is not working, please contact info@triviamafia.com. We’ll do our best to arrange an immediate loaner PA (for an additional fee of $15/event) until your sound is back online, and can have our A/V Expert head out to help you troubleshoot and find a solution.

Q: What should I give out for prizes?

A: Trivia Mafia stipulates that your prize values be the same from week to week, and that they are worth $30, $20, and $10. It is most common to give out gift cards for those values to the winning teams. You can specify limitations, but it can cause frustration for teams if they are too limited on options (i.e. can only use gift cards on a future date, are offered a specific mixed drink but they don’t consume alcohol), so tread lightly if you need to set up limits — and make sure our host is clear on them before they’re handed out.
Another idea is to have them sponsored by another business! We have seen alcohol partners sponsor a special and/or a prize (i.e. Lift Bridge taps are $4 and one of their t-shirts is a prize), or food trucks/delivery spots will sponsor a taproom’s trivia prize. Halfway prizes are completely optional, and are recommended to be worth $10 or less.
If you are thinking of increasing prize values, we have seen that it’s more popular with teams to have more prizes rather than higher value prizes. The act of winning often feels more valuable than any particular prize, so having rewards for Best Team Name, Most Average, Nearly But Not Last, and other fun designations will ensure that more players feel that endorphin boost of recognition.

Steps We're Taking to Keep Live Trivia Safe for Everyone
We're in the business of spreading good times (and good trivia) at Trivia Mafia. In order to prevent the spread of anything else, we're taking the following steps to keep everyone (our hosts, our players, and our venues) as safe as possible during our live trivia events.

What You Should Know

  • All Trivia Mafia employees are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • All Trivia Mafia hosts are encouraged to wear masks during their trivia shifts, with exceptions for eating, drinking, and speaking into a microphone. This includes both indoor and outdoor/patio trivia events.

  • All Trivia Mafia hosts have been instructed to maintain a safe distance from their players as often as is reasonable. We still hand out materials, but possibly fewer high-fives.

  • Trivia Mafia relies on our venue partners to create live events that adhere to the most current recommendations from federal, state, and local authorities.

What Happens If/When a Trivia Mafia Host Tests Positive for COVID-19?

  • Any host who has tested positive for COVID-19 is required to inform Trivia Mafia immediately, and find subs for any shifts in the coming week.

  • Infected hosts will be removed from our schedule and required to self-quarantine. They will be added to shifts again only after proof of a negative COVID test is provided.

  • All Trivia Mafia hosts have been instructed to sub out of their hosting shift any time they feel under the weather. This is no time to work while sick, and our hosts know that. So you might see some new faces from time to time at your trivia nights. We have also had to cancel sometimes when no sub is available on short notice, which we try to avoid, but will make the call by 3pm if that happens.

What Happens If/When One of My Staff Tests Positive for COVID-19?

  • If a member of your staff who was working on a trivia night tests positive, please inform us as soon as possible so we can share that with our host.

  • If you decide to make any changes to your hours or make a public statement, please let us know how to support you.

Trivia Mafia encourages all of our players and business partners to mask up, get jabbed, and take the night off whenever they're feeling unwell. We're still riding this rollercoaster with the rest of you, knuckles white and wishing it was actually finally for reals over. Let's all promise to be smart about this, and take care of one another.
